Audrey Hepburn est une actrice britannique, née Edda (ou Audrey) Kathleen Ruston le 4 mai 1929 à Ixelles (Belgique), décédée le 20 janvier 1993 à Tolochenaz (Suisse).

Elle se destinait initialement à la danse avant de rejoindre la scène à la fin des années 1940. Le succès de la pièce Gigi (1951) sur Broadway lui ouvre les portes du cinéma ; dès 1953, Vacances romaines lui vaut l'Oscar de la meilleure actrice. Étoile de Hollywood dans les années 1950 et 1960, elle est nommée quatre autres fois pour des Oscars, en particulier pour l'interprétation de Holly Golightly dans Diamants sur canapé (1961). Ses autres grands succès incluent Sabrina, My Fair Lady ainsi qu'un film culte Guerre et Paix tiré du roman éponyme de Léon Tolstoï. En 1967, à 38 ans, elle met fin provisoirement à sa carrière d’actrice, jusqu'en 1976 où elle reprend les chemins des plateaux avec le réalisateur Richard Lester.

Elle est entrée dans l'histoire du cinéma comme l'une de ses plus grandes actrices. En 1999, l'American Film Institute l'a ainsi distinguée comme la troisième plus grande actrice de films américains de tous les temps dans le classement AFI's 100 ans... 100 acteurs de légendes, derrière Katharine Hepburn, avec qui elle n'a aucun lien de parenté, et Bette Davis.

Elle eut un engagement important pour des causes humanitaires. Elle fut ambassadrice de l'Unicef entre 1988 et 1992 et son action est aujourd'hui poursuivie par l'Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund, œuvre caritative fondée en 1994, un an après son décès des suites d'un cancer de l'appendice d'évolution foudroyante.

Elle a également marqué son époque et la mode par l'incarnation d’un certain « chic » créé par le couturier Hubert de Givenchy dont elle fut l'amie et l'égérie.

It was originally destined to dance before joining the scene in the late 1940s the success of the piece Gigi (1951) on Broadway opened the doors of the cinema.; 1953, Roman Holiday earned him an Oscar for Best Actress. Hollywood star in the 1950s and 1960s, she was named four more times for Oscars, especially for the interpretation of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). His other hits include Sabrina, My Fair Lady and a cult film War and Peace based on the eponymous novel by Leo Tolstoy. In 1967, at age 38, she puts a temporary end to her acting career until 1976 when it takes the paths trays with director Richard Lester.

She entered film history as one of its greatest actresses. In 1999, the American Film Institute has distinguished itself as the third largest American film actress of all time in AFI's 100 Years classification ... 100 players legends behind Katharine Hepburn, with whom she has unrelated, and Bette Davis.

She had a strong commitment to humanitarian causes. She was UNICEF goodwill ambassador between 1988 and 1992 and its action is continued today by the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund, a charity founded in 1994, a year after his death from cancer of the appendix to lightning evolution.

It also marked his time and fashion through the incarnation of a "chic" created by designer Hubert de Givenchy she was a friend and muse.
